Greetings all, :iconolovni: here, with severe insomnia. Avoid german energy drinks ;)

While we're still preparing and drafting out the details for our great summer contest, and cleaning up the galleries for it, I'll share some random facts i've dug up from our group thus far. Might be a good laugh to read.

Anyhow, here we go:

- We get at least one new member a day on average.

- 9 out of 10 new members don't read the submission rules untill their first denied submission :D Right, do we have to make the rules link a little more visible? I'm open for suggestions.

- The most frequent reason people type up why should we accept them into the group is "WAAAAGH!" or some variation of thereof. Go Greenskins!

- The second most frequent reason is a full CV and painting history. Gee, guys and gals, don't overdo it :D

- For the past 6 months there have been fewer than 5 (if that much) miniatures submitted in the Masterclass section. The art department, however, submits us at least one a week that deserves to go into Masterclass. Come on painters, submit something great!

- We are STILL looking for someone with actual literaly skills (published work? long-time writer? good with grammar in high-school?) who is willing to go over all written work submitted thus far and re-check it for errors and relevance.

- Over the 42 pages of checked membership reason requests, the one that made me laugh most was: "Bacon."

- The second one that made me laugh was "Let me in I know kung-fu!"

- our 2000th watches is :iconsinitari: go say hi to her.

- we're just 11 members short of 1500 members, hopefully that will change with the 6th edition coming out soon.

- when the box set for the 6th edition 40k comes out this september, it will also be our 6th birthday. We're just one 6 short of making sure the starter set gets CSM in it :)

That's all for tonights random nonsence, stay tuned for the big summer contest we will be announcing during june and wich will last in both june and july. Have fun and enjoy the last days of classes ;) Us working folk don't have that luxury.

The rules are fairly visible to me, but I'm not sure if they're clear enough. I'm still a little in the dark about what is 40k-ish enough to get accepted. So maybe making that a little clearer? idk, however.

we won't make a "point list" of what a work has to have. It has to be intuitive, it has to visibly belong to the 40k world. If we post a specific list of things, it will be misused constantly and random crap will get in. This way, people need to think ;)

By rule of thumb, it has to be grim and dark enough to be in the 40k world. Even if it's a crossover from another fandom, it still has to belong more into the 40k world than the original fandom.

It might be a good idea to add exactly what you just said to rules, because that's definitely made things clearer for me :).

Anyway, it was just a suggestion.

i think it is in the rules... i'll check. It's not in this exact wording, but it's rather similar. I'll check nevertheless.

I'm still :iconimconfusplz: about that the pictures of that "colorist" guy of Adrian Smith's pictures are added to masterclass. I'ma writing this because I feel this blog is like about, er, wishes and suggestions? Lmao.

even coloring is an art, and if it looks great, it should be there. It takes skill to make it look good so that it doesn't appear that it's just a colored piece of BW work.

And no, i disagree with that entire rant rhumbles posted, it can be that easy, but it's not. Though thank you for your oppinion ;) Even though we (the admins) pick what goes into masterclass, we like to hear oppinions.

Circle gradient and some strokes for light on overlay layer - this is 5 minute job, really. It look great because all work there was done by Adrian Smith :/

Now don't get me wrong, i need feedback on this. This group should be primarily miniature-based, with artists, but we get more art-related masteclass work than miniature-related. That's bugging me personally much more than wich type of art should go into it and what type of coloring is art and what is not. I mean, we could debate it all week long about Majestic Chickens coloring technique and wheter it's good or bad or deserves to be called "masterclass" or not, but the real problem is this:
The masterclass folder is reserved for deviations that we, the admins, think are wow and shockingly good and would promote the hobby and world in it's best. And i'm saddened that we don't have more miniatures painted up to that standard.

I got your point of view (I may be not agree, but I know it's pointless to dispute with admin :))

But don't get me wrong too, I love seeing well-painted minies and I admire people who have skill to bring them to life, both end result and the painter's dedication are very inspiring. However, if I see a daviation with, umm, for example, BIG MAGNIFICENT PHOTO WITH SPLENDID PAINTED BERSERKER and with small comment below "*name* made conversion, then *name* painted it, then I glued those two small horns on his hand. I'm just horn-gluer" and taking complements about how great the whole work is, I'll be confused the same way :/

In other words, if Masterclass is to inspire us to produce more high-level work with our hands, it is not very inspiring to see deviations with not much work from deviant who posted it...

point also taken, and from that perspective i understand why it might get removed from the masterclass folder.

As i said, i like feedback, i just want proper feedback and explained arguments before i take action. Thanks for this :)

I'm not gonna judge a piece of work on how much time it takes or what exact type of skill it takes. The end effect is all that matters. Plus, he gave credit to the original artist, he's not taking credit for the artwork, just the coloring. If he wasn't giving credit to Adrian Smith, that would be a different story then.

I really see no reason for this not to be in masterclass, and i also don't see why similar work can't go in either. Yes it's a gradient with a few touchups, but if i started looking at work like that, there would be nothing in the masterclass folder. I would find an error on every work.

no, you paint :P i won't go into discussion what is more time consuming or demanding, that's like discussing what painting techniques are better. It doesn't matter, since the masterclass folder has only one prerequisite - it has to look representative. And it does, regardless how it was made.

I'd love to work for the literature section, if it weren't for the fact that I already am a head mod for :iconadepta-librica:, which has very stringent application rules, mind.

As for Masterclass: I think I could submit to it, but not my table top minis, imho. And the Failcast series of fixed Vanguards, even if I paint them to a high standard, I don't think deserves the Masterclass section because of aforementioned failcasting.

The random facts were fun tho!

I can probably help out with checking the written work. I think grammar and spelling was the only thing I got right at high school (ignore the fact I dont use it very well in comments, thats just me being lazy =p)

And I think the only thing Ive painted well enough to fit in the Masterclass section is ironically a fantasy piece, so its not exactly the right group for it

Also, bacon is an excellent reason for anything

I'd say make the rules link first thing on the page, I missed it several times well reading through. And I'm still laughing at the most common reason say you should let them in the group.
